So far, no studio recording has been made. "Sposa, non mi conosci" is an aria sung by the character Epitide La morte d'Abel[1] by Antonio Caldara. The full name of the libretto is La morte d’Abel figura di quella del nostro Redentore (Abel’s Death as a Symbol for That of Our Saviour. The author of the libretto is Pietro Metastasio.
Caldara's version was the very first – around 40 different compositions setting Metastasio's libretto to music were to follow.[1]
Context
True to the topic of the oratorio, parallels between Abel and Jesus are drawn. For reference:
John 10:11-18:
11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.
[...]
14 I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.
15 As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep.[2]
