Giovanni Francesco Busenello, also Gian Francesco Busenello (24 September 1598 – 27 October 1659) was an Italian lawyer, librettist and poet of the 17th century.[2]

His libretti have been set to music by Claudio Monteverdi and Francesco Cavalli. There are five operatic libretti: La Didone, Gli amori d'Apollo e di Dafne, L'incoronazione di Poppea, La Statira and La prosperità infelice di Giulio Cesare. The latter was either never set to music or the music has been lost.
