Annotations
"Amar senza penar" appears in the 1717 version[1]. Whether it is also part of the 1715 version has yet to be confirmed. In the version printed in 1723[3], there have been considerable text changes. The introductory line of the angel seems to be missing, and the text is as follows:
Angelo
Recitativo
Ferma dall'alto soglio
Penetraron le sfere i tuoi sospiri,
Se col vago candore
De' tuoi puri pensieri
Sapesti innamorar l'istesso Amore.
Aria
Amar senza penar
Non è da invitto cor,
Che brama il Cielo.
Saprà ben consolar
L'aspetto del dolor
Ogni tuo zelo.
